As a man I agree with you and understand where you're coming from. But to be fair, women played a different role in society and in relationships back then. You're gaining the equality and power that you've always deserved, albeit it's not where it should be yet. The men that built houses from scratch and killed animals for food with their hands also probably didn't concern themselves as much with a woman's feelings.
